Abstract:
As a new mode of American zoning, form-based code advocates the combination of morphological control and urban-rural development. It is targeted to address the issues of urban sprawl and waste of land resource. Recently, the introduction of parametric techniques makes form-based code efficient and flexible. This paper systematically analyzed the background, major characteristics and parametric development trend of form-based code. Transect matrix and compilation system also have been indicated. In view of the status of countries and villages development in China, three measures are declared, including morphological-based planning, parametric manners and sustainable built environment. The measures are essential to protect and improve morphological characteristics, bridge urban-rural data gap, as well as provide scientific and technological support for the research and practice of rural spatial planning.
