Abstract:
The regional coordination development has become an essential part of compilation of territorial spatial planning. The modern mobility accelerates the flows of diverse factors among cities, which transforms the urban development pattern among the regional cities from the conventional graded influence of central place theory into the network developed from the ‘space of flow’. Under the context of the national strategy of the Grand Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Bay Area, the fringe cities surrounding the Bay Area including Yangjiang should fully utilize the ‘network connection’ of modern mobility and information. With the smooth flows of factors, they could maximize their advantages of resources and regionally coordinate with other cities by functional complementation, becoming the direct-link ‘neighborhood cities’ for the core cities, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, under the development of cross-regional integration. The development strategy of cross-regional integration could be applied as the framework of the next compilation of Yangjiang territorial spatial planning, and further converts into the implementation guidelines of integral development between the small and medium cities and the regional core cities.
