Abstract:
Diversity is nature to cities. The correlation between the diversity of urban spatial forms and functional formats and urban vitality is an important issue of urban planning research. For historical and cultural cities, the contradiction between conservation and development has become increasingly prominent, and how to balance the maintenance of the daily life of the indigenous residents and the development of tourism is also a crucial issue. The research uses Jianshui historical and cultural city in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province as a case study. In the ancient city area and the purple pottery cultural industry park area, the mobile phone signaling data is used to represent the vitality of the city and POI data is used to analyze the characteristics of commercial formats, to explore the correlation between the commercial formats and urban vitality. The research finds that: the diversity of commercial formats is not entirely positively correlated with the spatiotemporal distribution of urban vitality, while the quality of commerce is an important factor of its attractiveness. On the other hand, the development of a more vibrant new area of tourism growth outside the ancient city is one of the effective ways to balance the contradiction between the conservation and development of the ancient city and avoid the 'living ancient city' being a merely scenic area.
