Abstract: The scientific and reasonable identification of village types is the premise and basis for the formulation of village planning and the implementation of rural revitalization strategy. Aiming at the problems of few village classification studies, difficult type identification, and complex internal land use structure and function of rural residential areas, this paper constructs a scientific based on land use perspective, reasonable and simple village type identification index system from three dimensions of natural conditions, location conditions, and rural vitality. Taking 2151 villages outside the urban development boundary of Weihai City in Shandong Province for examples, to identify suburban integration type, agglomeration and upgrading type, survival development type, characteristic protection type, and relocation and evacuation type villages. Finally, it puts forward corresponding revitalization strategies for various villages
