Abstract:
Since the reform and opening up, artists congregating in rural living spaces have formed 'artist villages', which have further evolved into 'art villages' that promote rural industry transformation and economiccultural development. This study, focusing on Shangyuan Village and Xiayuan Village (hereafter collectively referred to as 'Shang-Xia Yuan Village') in Xingshou Town, Beijing Changping District, employs Actor-Network Theory to delve into its evolution from an ordinary village to an art village. The findings underscore: 1) The gentrification evolution of Shangxia Yuan Village is primarily manifested in its living space and has traversed two pivotal periods: the germination period and the development period. 2) The gentrification process in Shang-Xia Yuan Village is marked by notable changes in residential, public, and creative industrial spaces. 3) The gentrification of ShangXia Yuan Village is a transformative process driven jointly by the synergy of demand, supply, and policy, under the collective leadership of artists, the village committee, and other diverse actors. This study sheds light on the patterns of rural gentrification under artistic influence, enriching China's theoretical underpinnings of rural gentrification and providing practical insights from an artistic perspective for comprehensive rural revitalization.
