Abstract:
The delineation of contiguous rural units forms the basis for conducting rural territorial spatial planning at the county level and optimizing the spatial functional layout of rural areas. There is an urgent need to develop a systematic, scientific, precise, and practical delineation method tailored for rural revitalization. By reviewing existing research on unit delineation methods, this paper summarizes the trend towards a high degree of integration between the 'attribute method' and the 'network method'. Subsequently, based on an empirical case study that assesses the spatial context at the county level in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province, this paper constructs an integrated delineation method for contiguous rural units with 'attribute-network' synergy. The method consists of three steps: evaluating the dominant functions of villages and towns, determining unit centers and their hinterlands, and adjusting boundaries and clustering delineation. It is hoped that this method will provide fundamental support for rural revitalization and integrated urban-rural development.
